The past two weeks, I’ve been in Morocco!! I’ve been to Casablanca, Rabat, Boujioud, Safi, Essaouria, and Marrakesh. While it was a great time and all, there were some occasions in which I was ready to go home and be in bed.
Prior to leaving for Morocco, we were told how we should dress and what was considered appropriate. Getting there, everything went off without a hitch. A week in, we went to Casablanca and Rabat and my friends and I experienced a lot of catcalling. We knew that it was something that we would experience, but the amount of catcalling from almost everyone we passed was too much. It made us feel uncomfortable and most times, we didn’t want to leave our rooms because of it. While men think that they’re complimenting us, they’re really making us feel objectified and we do not take comments like “nice legs” as a compliment. We were still able to keep our heads up and tried to enjoy the rest of the trip.
Besides those moments, Morocco is truly beautiful and worth a trip. Not only are you able to learn more about the history of Morocco, you also get to experience their culture first-hand. There are so many organizations that are willing to teach and it was amazing to visit so many women-run organizations. We visited an organization that hand-makes carpets, clothes, and jewelry. We visited another organization that makes Argan oil by hand. We love to see women-run organizations! We also made our own tajine!
The Moroccan sun hits DIFFERENT. You leave Morocco literally glowing and it’s one of the best things that can happen to you. Here are some of my favorite pictures! Hope you enjoy: 🙂
See you soon!
